“I’ve never seen Albert wear jeans – he usually wears trousers.” – Nick Valensi
Albert Hammond Jr. is one of the five members of The Strokes. And if each one has his own style, Hammond is special for his love of suits.
The guitarist willingly admits not knowing anything about fashion itself. He draws his inspiration from film and music, notably naming artists such as John Lennon and The Clash. To copy another – always imperfectly – is, according to him, a way to discover one’s own style.
For the musician, since his beginnings, a suit carries a message. Beyond a garment, it acts as true armour : “I always wore a suit when I was young because no one could tell me no”. It is also, in his mind, an act of rebellion at a time where “casual wear” rules.
Albert Hammond’s preferred suit is the three piece, and if going for the simplicity of jeans with a white t-shirt, he doesn’t fail to make a reference to it by spicing his outfit up with a waistcoat.
