MEN IN BELLE DE JOUR

A young woman is bored with her husband, she decides to prostitute herself. This young woman, Severine Serizy, interpreted by Catherine Deneuve, is the central character of Belle du Jour. For this reason, if the red suit, brown turtleneck and little black dress she wears are regularly mentioned, the 3 male figures that mark the film are commonly omitted. Yet, from the deluded husband to the poisonous delinquent, to the cunning bourgeois, the men alongside Séverine occupy an essential place.

A husband in a flannel suit

Pierre Serizy, played by Jean Sorel, is the husband. He is dressed in a grey flannel suit, a supple and enveloping fabric. At the end of the film, unable to leave his house, he wears large, black sunglasses and a caramel colored dressing gown.

A criminal in a velvet jacket

Pierre Clementi plays The Role of Marcel, a violent and dangerous criminal. Velvet suits and leather trench coat. His socks are brightly coloured: red or purple.

The bourgeois in the dark suit

Michel Piccoli’s character, Husson. Steep but sophisticated, bourgeois and a little perverse. He chooses a midnight blue suit in twilled wool, a dry weaving, assertive but discreet, cutting and sober.
